Many wonderful summer opportunities are available for high school students. You can study on a college campus, participate in a foreign exchange program, explore volunteer service or other interests. http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/SummerPrograms.html

COSMOS is an intensive four-week summer residential program for students with a demonstrated aptitude for academic and professional careers in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Talented and motivated students completing grades 8-12 have the opportunity to work with renowned faculty, researchers, and scientists in state-of-the-art facilities while exploring advanced STEM topics far beyond the courses usually offered in California high schools. Through challenging curriculum that is both hands-on and lab intensive, COSMOS fosters its students’ interests, skills, and awareness of educational and career options in STEM fields. http://cosmos-ucop.ucdavis.edu

BLIPS is an eight-week internship which provides high school juniors with the opportunity to work with world class scientists or engineers on projects related to the Laboratory’s research programs. Assignments cover a wide range of laboratory tasks and assistance in basic research. http://csee.lbl.gov/Programs/BLIPS

If you are aware of other summer programs, please email me and I'll add them to this list.
