Computer Animated Drafting (CAD)

Computer animated drafting, CAD for short, is very useful in prototyping designs before they are fabricated (made) in real life. This helps visualize weaknesses and strengths in the product design before they go to mass production.

To get a feel for CAD, we are going to be using a free program from Google called Sketchup.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a 3D model of a computer station in room P6:

Download the file gpa.xlsx

If you have Excel 2007, 2008, or 2010 at home, you can use the program on your computer.

Otherwise, upload this file to your SkyDrive and edit while online in the cloud.

The goal of this file is to recreate your class schedule, and fill in the grid with your current grades for each class, with subscores for tests, quizzes, homework, and another category (if available).

Then in the grey columns, you need to create a formula that will take these scores, apply their corresponding weights (are tests worth 25% of your grade or 50%, or something else?) to arrive at your current class grade. Ideally, using real values makes this assignment more useful for you (and I will be the only one who sees this besides you).

Then in the bottom grey cell, you need to create a formula to calculate your current overall GPA.

When completed, please email the file to cjohns AT irvingtonita DOT org.
